I Love Tuesdays

Every Tuesday, I head over to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens for Tai Chi classes. Ming Xie is a delightful and very patient instructor. I am not the most coordinated of students, but everyone there makes the class enjoyable.
It just so happens that the botanical gardens happen to be on the SAME street, a few miles south of one of my favorite quilt shops, the Mesquite Bean. It also happens to be U.F.O. Tuesday at the shop. The back room is filled with quilters working on projects. As I drive pass the quilt shop on my way to the gardens, I tell myself that I will skip the quilt shop this time. But on the way back, my car just pulls in the parking lot…every time. I have been pretty good about sticking to a budget and just going to visit with the quilters and staff. Joy and Nancy are two staff members who are always so helpful and generous with sharing ideas.
Today, Nancy helped me select some fabric for the Christmas tree quilt I plan to start soon. I had purchased some fabric on my Fayetteville trip, but I needed just a bit more. Nancy also helped me read through the pattern and gave me some tips for making this tubular quilt.
I also purchased fabric to complete the Batman Baby quilt.
You can see why I love Tuesdays.
I finished piecing the top.
I chose this super light flannel for the backing.

The San Antonio Botanical Gardens is going through some major improvement.
I decided to go see the progress.
Of course, the gardens are all in winter mode, but the area is still a beautiful, peaceful place.
My favorite part is the Texas section where you can find the ducks and turtles.

The ducks were enjoying the sun as much as I was!
Of course, I stopped by the new gift shop and I heard something say, “Take me home.”
So, I now have an owl that I named Bonita, perched over my sewing machine.

Bonita watched over me as I finished piecing the last of the blocks on my floral quilt.

I played with the arrangement until all I saw was polka-dots.
Then I called my sisters and asked for their input.
This is what we have so far.
I will let it hang on the wall for a day or two, before I piece it together.
Now, I am trying to find the perfect name.
The first name that came to mind was Floral Fantasy.
These are other names that are floating in my head: Botanical Beauty, Funky Florals, and El Jardin.
I need to set the whole thing aside and start on something else!

Sunday Morning

Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp,
but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.
Nathaniel Hawthorne

We are fortunate to be having great weather.
After a rainy week, it is so good to see the sun again.
My husband and I decided it was a day to be outside.
We went to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens… gorgeous!
And…I saw a hummingbird. It was so hard to stay quiet, since I didn’t want to scare it away.
Local schools have made scarecrows that are placed throughout the gardens.

These were two of my favorites.

Monarch butterflies are everywhere.

I managed to take a photo of one that decided to pose for me.

Of course, I had to pose for this photo.

These are residents at the garden.
We had a very pleasant morning, walking and sitting in the garden.
